Australian cricket selectors have announced their squads for the upcoming white-ball series against India, with Mitchell Starc making his return to international cricket and uncapped batter Matthew Renshaw earning a recall to the ODI squad. The squads were revealed on Tuesday (October 7) for three ODI matches beginning October 19 and the first two T20 internationals, as Australia continue preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup.Starc, who recently retired from T20 internationals, returns to the squad after sitting out the South Africa series in August. He had been resting since the West Indies Test tour with his workload being carefully managed ahead of the Ashes.

The 15-man ODI squad sees four new additions alongside Starc, including Renshaw, Matt Short, and Mitch Owen. Both Owen and Short were initially selected for the South Africa series but couldn’t participate due to injuries – Owen suffered a concussion during the T20 series, while Short was recovering from a rib cartilage fracture.Owen and Renshaw stand poised to make their ODI debuts against India, following their strong performances in domestic 50-over cricket. Marnus Labuschagne has been left out of the squad after scoring just one run in each of his two innings against South Africa.Mitchell Marsh will continue as ODI captain while Pat Cummins recovers from lumbar bone stress in preparation for the Ashes. Alex Carey will miss the first ODI in Perth to play in South Australia’s Sheffield Shield match.

“We have named a squad for the first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chair George Bailey said.“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”The white-ball tour against India begins with the first ODI match in Perth on October 19, followed by games in Adelaide and Sydney.
